Youth Leader

Position Summary:
The Youth Leader supports the YMCA’s mission of developing youth potential by creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and teens. This role involves planning and leading activities, fostering positive relationships, and serving as a role model in alignment with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate recreational, educational, and social activities.

• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by enforcing YMCA policies and procedures.

• Build positive relationships with youth, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.

• Encourage participation, teamwork, and personal growth in all activities.

• Maintain accurate attendance and incident records.

• Communicate regularly with supervisors about program progress and participant needs.

• Assist with program setup, cleanup, and general maintenance of activity areas.

• Uphold the YMCA’s mission and core values at all times.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 completed college units in child development, recreation, education, or a related field (required).

• Previous experience working with children or teens in a group setting.

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

• Ability to manage groups effectively and respond calmly to emergencies.

• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).

• Must pass background checks as required by local and state regulations.

Work Environment:

• This position may require working evenings, weekends, and during school holidays.

• Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

• Active role involving standing, walking, and participating in physical activities.
