Youth Leader
Position Summary:
The Youth Leader supports the YMCA’s mission of developing youth potential by creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and teens. This role involves planning and leading activities, fostering positive relationships, and serving as a role model in alignment with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate recreational, educational, and social activities.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by enforcing YMCA policies and procedures.
Build positive relationships with youth, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
Encourage participation, teamwork, and personal growth in all activities.
Maintain accurate attendance and incident records.
Communicate regularly with supervisors about program progress and participant needs.
Assist with program setup, cleanup, and general maintenance of activity areas.
Uphold the YMCA’s mission and core values at all times.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 18 completed college units in child development, recreation, education, or a related field (required).
Previous experience working with children or teens in a group setting.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Ability to manage groups effectively and respond calmly to emergencies.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Must pass background checks as required by local and state regulations.
Work Environment:
This position may require working evenings, weekends, and during school holidays.
Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Active role involving standing, walking, and participating in physical activities.
